Crochet Pattern - Airpod Cosy

This is a nice simple crochet pattern and one I can't believe I haven't thought of doing before.

Apple Airpods are slippery little blighters at the best of times, as are their cases so this simple to crochet Airpod cosy is a great first project for new crocheters.

It's worked 'in the round' from a starting foundation chain and though I've used quite chunky beige yarn here (a shout out to the fact that all Apple stuff used to be that fun beige colour), you can make this out of scrap yarn from other projects, it's literally only about 15 rows of stitching.

I'm using US crochet terms here but just to be clear:

SC - Single Crochet

SS - Slip Stitch

CH - Chain

DEC - Single Crochet Decrease

I used a 4.0mm hook and some nice chunky Stylecraft Special "Chunky" Yarn (but give it a go with just about any yarn you've got, you'll find it's a nice easy adaptable pattern.

Row 1: Chain 7 (7)

Row 2: On 2nd stitch from hook, SC 1 then SC next 5 stitches (7)

Row 3: SC opposite side of chain until you've got around 14 stitches all round, and a nice 'oval' base (14)

Row 4: SC in back loops all around (14)

Row 5-10: SC all around (14)

Row 11: SC until you're on one side of your oval shape (imagine this is the side of your Airpods case). Chain 6 stitches, then skip six stitches before slip-stitching your Chain on the other side (to create the 'gap' for your airpod case to open and close).

Row 12: SC all around (14)

Row 13-14: SC 1, Dec all around (7)

Row 15: Dec all around. Close up gap, tie off yarn.

To insert your Airpod case

Remove the charging cable (if, like me, you have the durned things on Charge all the time).

Make a gap between two stitches in the base of the cosy. If you've used chunky yarn it should be easy to work the cable into a stitch gap.

Connect to the case, then tuck the case in through the gap you left in round 11

This should be a nice snug fit for the bottom part of your Airpods, and then you can tuck the top part into the top of the cosy.

Feel free to adapt the pattern with multicoloured yarn or stripes. The same pattern can also be adapted for all sorts of other headphone cases / cosies - perfect for a crocheting noob!
