Manic Miner Filet Guide Part 2 - Rows 4 to 18 and finishing off

Hopefully by now you'll have seen Part 1 of our Manic Miner guide to filet crochet, and will have the first three rows (the bottom three rows) of your design polished off.

Now it's time to proceed to Row 4 - and remember that as we snake our way up through the rows, we are working in different directions each time. So let's begin with Row 4, which will be worked left to right. In each row I will highlight the actual work you do in bold, but describe what we're doing before letting you loose on your own, as by row 5 you should be super confident in what you're doing!

Row 4

Start with the usual 5 chain so

CH5

then miss the next two stitches, Triple Crochet (TC x 1) into the next stitch. Miss the next two stitches, chain 2 then Triple Crochet (TC) into the next 10 stitches.

TC x 1, miss two stitches, Chain 2 then TC in next 10 stitches

Now we've come to our next gap, so we need to miss the next two stitches, and then TC into the next 7 stitches

Miss two stitches, Chain 2 then TC in next 7 stitches

Miss the next two stitches, TC x 1, miss two stitches, then TC x 1 to finish off. TURN your work.

Miss two stitches, Chain 2 then TC x 1, miss two stitches, chain 2 then TC x 1, TURN

Row 5 (working right to left)

By now you know what you're doing, and know that the next row is worked right to left. I'm going to write out the instructions and let you get on with it!

And hopefully you'll end up with something that looks like this:

Confession! This version was my first attempt and I REALLY stuffed up the number of columns but you get the general idea of what you will end up with if you follow my instructions. Try a really nice contrasting colour to whatever background you're going to mount this on. It produces a piece of work that's roughly 21 centimetres wide and 29 high so big enough to use as an iPad cover or a cushion cover if you add a few extra rows around it.

With Filet crochet it's sometimes a good idea to double or treble crochet a border round the outside of the work to keep all those gaps in place but it's entirely up to you.

Anyway, I hope my tutorial has worked out OK and you can follow it. Pretty much any 8-bit pixel pattern in a single colour will work for this type of filet gridding, so see what else you can come up with!
